Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially inaugurated the Chairmen and Members of the Christian and Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Boards.
Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Agomuoh will serve as Chairman of the Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, while Chief Imam Sheikh Ali Ukiwo will lead the Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board.
Speaking during the inauguration, held at the Banquet Hall, Government House Umuahia on Thursday, Governor Otti, who congratulated members of the Boards, said their appointments were made strictly by merit.
The Governor emphasized that every member selected for the Board was deserving of the appointment, having distinguished themselves in service to God and humanity.
“Everyone who found his or her name as a member of the board is deserving of the appointment.
“I am aware that all of you, collectively and individually, have distinguished yourselves in the service of God and humanity.
“There were a lot of people who were qualified, but we had to take this number as enshrined in the law,” the Governor stated.
Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to excellence and accountability, urging the newly appointed Board Members to prioritize service and performance in their new roles.
“I am aware you know clearly what is expected of you. In the new Abia, when you get an appointment, yes it is good to celebrate, but it is all about work.
“Your appointment is all about performance, and we know that you are going to perform; that is why we chose you,” Gov. Otti said.
He expressed optimism that the Members of the Christian and Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Boards will not disappoint the confidence reposed in them.
In their responses on behalf of the members of their Boards, the Chairman of the Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, Apostle Emmanuel Agomuoh, and his Muslim counterpart, Sheikh Ali Ukiwo, thanked Governor Otti for finding them fit for the assignment and assured him that they would strive to justify the confidence reposed in them.
