Governor Alex Otti has inaugurated the 18-Member Governing Council of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), with a charge on members to hit the ground running in addressing the challenges facing the Institution and lay the groundwork for sustainable growth and development.
The Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor, Rt. Hon Agwu U. Agwu, is tasked with revitalizing the University and positioning it as one of the leading academic institutions in Nigeria and Africa.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, held at Nvosi Isialangwa South LGA, Governor Otti while congratulating Members of the Board, emphasized the importance of their role in driving the institution toward excellence.
The Governor described Members of the ABSU Governing Board as individuals of integrity with proven track records and expressed confidence in their ability to lead the institution through a transformative phase.

“Let me start by congratulating all of you for making it to the transformation team of the ABSU .These are interesting times for our University.
“Without sounding immodest, i must say that for you to have found yourself as one of the people that would change this transformation, it means a whole lot, a lot of confidence have been reposed on you.
“All of you are people of integrity, people who have good records, people who we can rely on their words so we have no doubt that you will do your best to change our University to one of the best Universities in Nigeria, indeed Africa”, Gov Otti stated.

The Governor called on the Council Members to focus on implementing innovative policies and fostering an environment of academic excellence and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the council’s efforts in achieving their set goals.
Speaking on behalf of his Colleagues, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, ABSU Governing Board Rt Hon, Agwu U. Agwu, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the trust reposed in the Council and pledged their dedication to the task ahead.

The ABSU Pro Chancellor assured the Governor and the people of Abia State that the Council would work in collaboration to achieve the desired transformation at the Institution.

“We are going to put in our best to turn around the fortunes of ABSU.
