Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has offered automatic employment to nine Abia-born ex-corps members recently decorated with national honours by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their exemplary service during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Governor Otti made the announcement, today, while receiving the honourees at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South.
The Governor who also promised cash rewards to the ex corps members, explained that although his administration had briefly lifted the embargo on recruitment to provide opportunities for young people, the embargo was subsequently reinstated after the exercise.
He congratulated the awardees for bringing pride to Abia State, noting that dedication to service often paves the way for greater opportunities.
Governor Otti cited the example of the current Head of Service, Mr Benson Ojeikere, an Edo-born technocrat, who rose to prominence as a product of NYSC meritorious service.
The Governor urged the former Corps Members to continue to distinguish themselves in their various endeavours, assuring them that his administration will always recognise and reward excellence, hard work and service.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, while presenting the awardees, explained that they made Abia State proud during their service year and were honoured by President Tinubu on 29 July.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his consistent support to the NYSC.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, one of the National Awardees, Mr Nwogu Chinomso, thanked the Governor for the gesture and pledged that they would remain worthy ambassadors of the state wherever they go.
