Gov. Otti assures NYSC Corps members of support, security.
Corps members of the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC has been assured of support in their service to the nation.
Abia State Governor ,Dr Alex Otti, who gave the assurance during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch “A” Stream II Corps members deployed to state held at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende LGA, also stated his administration’s determination to reward hard work and excellence.
Gov. Otti, who harped on the need for them to put in their best in all they do, maintained that his government would continue to assist and support the scheme to ensure that it perform its responsibilities creditably without hindrance in the state.
The Governor represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development and Chairman NYSC Governing Board,Sir. Nwaobilor Ananaba further assured the corps members of adequate security and general wellbeing while they serve in the State.
His words, Sustainable development finds meanings only in a peaceful and stable polity. Therefore, as future leaders, you have a central role to play to enable the present administration to achieve a stronger, more secured,stable prosperous state”.
The State Chief Executive commended the state Coordinator, NYSC and her team for their efforts and commitment in moulding the youth of this nation towards becoming self-reliant by rolling out the skills acquisition programme, the free medical outreaches and community development service programme.
Dr. Otti charged them to eschew all forms of fear of the unknown, and prejudices, rather move into their host communities with love , determination and open minds to make great and positive impact on the lives of the people as well feel free to integrate with members of their host communities.
He congratulated them on their successful conclusion of their trainings and wished them journey mercies to their various places of their primary assignment and fruitful service year in the state.
Earlier in her address, the state Coordinator NYSC Abia State, Mrs Adama Gladys said that a total of 1564 Corps members 811 males and 753 female were posted to the state.
Mrs Adama said that the Corps members have undergone rigorous moral, physical, and mental orientation in the last three weeks which have repositioned them for the next phase of their service year.
Her words, “they were put through various mind burgling lectures, including skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development and leadership trainings.
” These lectures were meant to motivate as well as challenge them towards the demands of national development. I have no doubt in mind that they will great impacts in the development of the state if given the enabling environment.
She appealed the state government of the need to upgrade the corps members lodges across the state, and also if possible build additional ones to accommodate the corps members.
Mrs Adama commended Gov. Otti for his numerous support to the scheme as well thanked all the security personnel and their host communities for their support.
