The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the release and publication of the White Paper report generated by a full visitation panel to Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU).
This decision is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to address key issues within the institution and drive impactful reforms.
As part of the reforms in the Institution, Governor Otti has appointed Professor Ndukwe Okudo as the new Vice Chancellor of ABSU, alongside a new Management team and Governing Council.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Exco meeting presided over by Governor Otti.
Prince Kanu listed the new appointments to include; Rt. Hon. Agwu U Agwu as Pro-Chancellor, Mrs. Catherine Uju Ifejika as Chancellor, and Dr. Onwubiko Dike as a member of the Governing Council.
The Commissioner revealed that other additional appointments include, two Deputy Vice Chancellors, four members of Senate, two representatives from the congregation, one representative of Convocation, a delegate from the State Ministry of Tertiary Education, and a new Bursar.
He highlighted that the recent appointments would mark the beginning of significant change in the institution and added that the appointments would take effect from November 1, 2024.
The first in the series of reforms that would take place there (ABSU) has commenced with the appointments”, Prince Kanu stated.
The Commissioner emphasized that the visitation panel was established to identify the university’s challenges and proffer solutions.
