The Ohaneze Ndigbo, Abia State Chapter, has revealed list of Nigerians who made their 2022 Award Recipients.
The list which featured over twenty-four persons both living and dead drawn from core Igbo states would be honoured by the Apex body of ndigbo.
In a Press Conference held in Umuahia, to intimate the media on the line up of activities, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Chief Charles Ama, said the Ohaneze Ndigbo Abia State Chapter would be inaugurating her state executive come 29th of November, 2022 and part of the activities of the inauguration would be a Gala night,as well as conferring of Awards on Igbo sons and daughters both living and dead, that have made a mark in developing the Igbo land.
According to Chief Ama, the Governor of Abia State,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Chief Innocent Chukwuma(Innoson Motors),Sam Onyeisi(CEO Peace Mass), Elder Emmanuel Adaelu, Peter Obi,Chief Allen Onyema,Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Engr Chinedum Orji,Chris Odinaka Igwe,Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,Sir Emmanuel Mbaka, Business Mogul,Kelvin Jombo, Arthur Eze,Prof Gregory Ibe,Lt Gen Azubuike Ihejirika Rtd, Hon Chimaobi Ebisike, among others and under the posthumous award, the Late Traditional Head of Ngwa land,His Eminence, B.O Enweremadu,Former Deputy Governor of Abia State,Chima Nwafor, Nnanna Kalu would be awarded posthumously.
The LOC chairman also stated that the event would be chaired by the Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police,Azubuko Joel Udah, while the keynote speaker would be the Governor of Abia State,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.
He added that the newly elected exco of Abia Ohaneze Ndigbo,are men and women of proven integrity,chosen to chair the organization for the next four years, stating that arrangements are in top gear to ensure a hinge free event, especially on the area of sensitization and advocacy.
“Top government functionaries,youth groups,women council,traders and others have been invited to grace this occasion”,he said.
The Chairman of the Committee further stated that a one hour devotional service has been lined up to kick start the event, noting that the event would be used to inform the world that Abia is one of the safest states in Nigeria.
The group also used the Media Conference to express their displeasure over the recent statement made by the Governor of Anambra State,Chukwuma Soludo against the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, maintaining that everyone who wants to aspire for any political position in Nigeria has the right to do so, rather than pull the person down,deny him/her your support.
“It is good we take this message to another level,so that the igbo man would have a say.
“Candidates should go about preaching their manifesto,let the voters decide.Every body should be given a level playing ground.The most important thing is that an Igbo man is on the race”.
He, however, added that Ohaneze Ndigbo would not publicly endorse any candidate but insisted that every region be given an opportunity to hold leadership positions.”It should be a merry go round”,he added.
The group further cleared the misconceptions on the leadership of the Ohaneze at the National level, saying that the authentic President General of the group is Amb George Obiozor,while the Secretary General is Amb Okechukwu Emuchay from Abia State.
