Gov Ikpeazu Presents State Awards To Deserving Corps Members.

 

 

Five Corps Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who served meritoriously in the 2019 Batch “B” and “C” service year in Abia state have been presented with State Honours Award and cash gifts by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

 

Among the five Corps members, Nyam Patrick built two-bedroom bungalow for an indigent widow, Oluwatobi Matthew drilled borehole for a school in his host community in addition to donating desks and Adeola Oluwagbemileke empowered 26 widows while the other two; Sebe Godspower and Babatunde Dolapo were the covid19 champions, who constructed semi automated hand washing machines for the State.

 

 

Presenting the awards in Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu expressed happiness at the resilience shown by the Corps members in executing laudable humanitarian projects despite the pandemic and its lockdown that took the better part of their service year.

The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, commended the corps members for being outstanding in service to their fatherland and charged them not to relent in rendering the needed selfless services to humanity wherever they find themselves.

 

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youths & Sports and Chairman, NYSC Governing Board, Chief Emeka Ikwuagwu expressed gratitude to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for encouraging Corps members to work hard by making funds available for the award ceremony.

 

He equally saluted Abia people for giving the Corps members posted to them, the needed peaceful atmosphere which enabled them to excel during their service year.

Earlier, the Abia State Coordinator, NYSC, Lady Bona Fasakin thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for revitalizing the NYSC State Honours Awards.

 

She recalled that the Governor recently gave automatic employment to two ex Corps members and appreciated him for the awards and cash prizes attached.

 

Fasakin expressed happiness that with all the challenges and limitations occasioned by the covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, the Corps members were able to impart positively on their immediate environment.

 

Responding on behalf of other awardees, Mr. Oluwatobi Mathew, appreciated the government and people of the State for providing the enabling environment for them to serve.
