Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has inuagurated a Seven Member visitation panel to Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) with Chief J.U.K Igwe (SAN) as Chairman.
Other members of the panel include Dr. Nathaniel Iheanacho, Hon Jude Udeachara, Sir Sam Onukwuo, HRH Eze Love Nwogu and Chief Mrs Victoria Akanwa while Mr Okechukwu Ihedioha is to serve as Secretary.
Inuagurating the panel at Government House Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu charged the members to painstakingly look into the academic programmes, infrastructural and financial activities of the institution to ascertain areas where it would be given a face lift.
He named their terms of reference to include; review of activities of the University from 2011- 2020, review academic programmes of the institution with a view to ascertaining the relevance whether or not they are current and in line with the 21st century demands in education as well review guidelines on admissions and it’s implementation.
The Members of the panel are also expected to review financial transactions for the period 2011-2020, consider the state of infrastructural facilities in the institution, review adminstrative policies intend of staff Welfare and promotion, quality and qualification of academic staff to meet National University Commission’s requirements and make necessary recommendations on any other matter relevant to the growth of the institution.
The Governor who described ABSU as a jewel and pride of academic Institutions not only in Abia but the entire Southern Part of Nigeria, congratulated the outgoing adminstration led by Prof.Uche Ikonne for taking the University “from a position of obscurity to number 26th among all universities in Nigeria and 2nd best in the state as well as maintained a leading position in national and international examinations.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of other members,Chairman of the Visitation panel to ABSU, Chief J.U.K Igwe (SAN) assured that they will align themselves with the vision of Governor Ikpeazu in the educational sector as well as make critical analysis and recommendations to push the University to greater heights.
