Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday described the late Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as a man of exceptional calibre whose public service was marked by intellectual depth, humility, and uncommon dedication.
Governor Fubara made the remarks while leading a high-powered delegation of Rivers State leaders on a condolence visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, following Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden death on December 11.
Dressed in black native attire with a matching cap, a symbol of mourning, Gov. Fubara described the deputy governor’s passing as a monumental loss not only for Bayelsa State but also for Rivers State, citing the deep historical, cultural, and political ties shared by the two states.
“The loss of Senator Ewhrudjakpo has personally touched me. Death remains beyond human control and is determined only by God, who gives and takes life,” Governor Fubara said.

He further assured the Bayelsa State Government of Rivers State’s readiness to support all funeral arrangements for the late deputy governor.
“Wherever you want us to come in, we will give our support. We know there is no word of condolence that can fill the void, but only God can comfort you,” he added.
He also extended Rivers State’s support to the Ewhrudjakpo family during this period of grief and beyond.
Responding, Governor Diri commended Governor Fubara for his empathy and solidarity, particularly for leading a delegation to personally console him and the people of Bayelsa over the loss. He admitted that he was still in shock over the death of his deputy but said he had surrendered to the will of God.

Both governors later visited the widow of the late deputy governor, Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, at the official residence to offer personal condolences and support.
Earlier on his way to Bayelsa, Governor Fubara stopped in Elele to attend a thanksgiving service organized by Sir Eze Mike Elechi and his family at St. James Anglican Church, expressing gratitude to God for His continued benevolence to the family.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden demise has been widely mourned across the Niger Delta region, with leaders from both Bayelsa and Rivers States describing him as a visionary public servant whose contributions to governance and regional development will be deeply missed.
