Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to extend development projects to Akabuka in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area — the hometown of his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
Governor Fubara made the promise on Saturday, October 25, 2025, during a reception held in honour of the deputy governor at the Government Secondary School, Akabuka.
Responding to concerns about the community’s neglect, Fubara assured that his administration would begin the assessment of internal roads and renovate the dilapidated secondary school, which has not seen major repairs in two decades.

“I can assure you that once we leave here, the process for assessing your roads will commence immediately. The Ministry of Education will also evaluate your school for renovation,” he said.
The governor apologized to Prof. Odu for the criticism she faced over her inability to attract projects, noting that the administration’s first two years were consumed by political crises that hindered progress.
He stressed that peace remains a necessary foundation for development and commended Akabuka residents for embracing unity.

“I have only one request — let’s sustain the peace. Two years ago, some people here today wouldn’t have attended such an event. This shows that Rivers State is healing,” Fubara added.
Governor Fubara also expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, for his role in their emergence as governor and deputy, promising never to take the opportunity for granted.
In her remarks, Deputy Governor Odu thanked Governor Fubara for honouring the invitation despite his busy schedule. She said the governor’s visit would end the mockery she endured from critics who accused her of failing to attract development to her community.

Prof. Odu also acknowledged former Governor Dr. Peter Odili, Chief Nyesom Wike, Amb. Desmond Akawor, and Chief Ferdinand Anabraba for supporting her political journey.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Jason Osai, described Governor Fubara as an icon of peace and praised the deputy governor as a role model whose leadership has fostered unity in Akabuka and the entire Orashi region.
He said the event symbolized a new dawn of peace and reconciliation in Rivers State.
