Gov Fubara Dumps PDP, Joins APC After Closed-Door Talks With President Tinubu

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state.

The governor declared his move during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. His announcement comes at a time of heightened political tension in Rivers State, where long-running disputes and internal party conflicts have continued to unsettle the political landscape.

The defection followed a private meeting between Governor Fubara and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday at the State House in Abuja. The discussions were held behind closed doors and were described as strategic, coming amid uncertainty surrounding Fubara’s position within the PDP and the deepening political rifts in the state.

Governor Fubara’s switch to the APC is expected to reshape political alignments in Rivers State, one of Nigeria’s most influential oil-producing states, and could trigger further realignments ahead of future elections.
