Gov. Emmanuel lauds Sixth Assembly for restoring peace in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the state house of Assembly  for restoring peace in the state even in the midst of provocations occassioned by the war chants of the opposition.
The Governor gave  the commendation on Monday during a thanksgiving service held at the House of Assembly Chapel as part of activities to mark the end of the Sixth Assembly.

The governor represented by his deputy, Moses Ekpo explained that the achievements recorded by his administration in his first term would not have been possible if not the peace, support and cooperation he got from the legislature led by Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke.

He however urged the incoming members to follow the footsteps of the sixth assembly and collaborate with the Executive arm of government to continue to move Akwa Ibom State  forward.

“The achievements we recorded as a government  would not have been possible if we did not  have a legislature that stood by us to make our job much easier. I want to also urge the incoming members to follow the footsteps of the sixth assembly and collaborate with government so that Akwa Ibom State can continue to be taken to higher heigh”. He said

Leading members of the Sixth Assembly on a thanksgiving, Barr. Onofiok Luke who was full of praises to God for sustaining him and his colleagues in the past four years, said the lawmakers had every reason to appreciate God for being faithful to them.

Recounting events of the past that  trailed the outgoing Assembly, Barr. Luke who would be resuming soon in the National Assembly as a Federal Lawmaker representing Etinan Federal Constituency, thanked God for seeing him and his colleagues through the period under review.

Ascribing his ascendancy to the Speakership seat in 2015 to God, he stated “We came here to thank God. We have great reasons to thank God. I sought election to come here for a second term, and God stood by me. The powers that be did not want my emergence as Speaker. They ceased the Clerk and ceased the proclamation letter. It was God who made me Speaker through the unanimous decision and support of my colleagues.”
“As a family we have every reason to thank God. I thank God that i am here finishing office of the Speaker with my marriage intact. I give God all the glory because i finished in the Office of the Speaker as a Christian. I am not perfect but i finished today without a scandal. I give God all the       glory.”
The winding down activities of the Sixth Assembly would be brought to a close on Thursday with a valedictory sitting by the lawmakers.
Luke donated 100 sets of executive chairs to the House of Assembly chapel and encouraged the incoming leadership of the house to continue to use the chapel for prayers, assuring; “There is nothing you do in this chapel that God would not reward you.
