Gov Emmanuel Embarks On Infrastructural Development In War Torn LG, Oruk Anam, Constructs 70km Road Projects

The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has began Infrastructural development across the war ravaged communities of Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the State.

Peace and normalcy had since returned to the council through the intervention of the governor after persistent cult clash took many lives, properties and sacked the residents.

Conducting journalists around some of the road projects in the local government the Special Assistant to Gov Emmanuel on Research and Documentation, Essien Ndueso said the internal road construction in the local government both ongoing and completed is about 70kilometers.

Ndueso who was accompanied by other Aides to the governor for the project inspection recalled that most of the roads either newly constructed or rehabilitated were totally at the state of disrepair until governor Emmanuel intervened.


Speaking at the project site in Obio-Akpa campus of Akwa Ibom State University Ndueso, explained that the campus before now suffered major infrastructural deficit, as there were no access road in and out of the institution, hence the decision of the Governor to give the institution a major intervention.

He disclosed that the Governor immediately awarded contracts to JP Sigma for the construction of internal roads and also provided lecture halls, administrative buildings and other studios and laboratories to make the institution regain accreditation and become conducive for learning.

At the 23.25km Ikot Ekaide-Ikot Okoro – Ikot Ibritam road project, the SA explained that the project is segmented for speedy completion saying that the bridge project is handled by Amitec Construction company, first section of the 23 km road handled by Total Advance and Nsik Engineering handles the remaining portion.

A representative of the contracting firm handling the Ikot Ekaide section of the road, Engr. Sohail had assured that the two bridge projects handled by his firm would be delivered by first quarter of next year.

Major features witnessed on the road projects executed in the area were side-drains on both sides of the road and solar powered street light. The Ikot ibritam-end point of the 23km road which is handled by another contractor, Nsik Engineering Company has been completed.

The team also inspected a new road project linking Ikot ibritam to enen ekefe to Ikot Akpan Afaha in Ukanafun. The 18.95kilometre road project is handled by a local contractor, AYF

Ndueso described the infrastructure as a signpost of the unity agenda which is dear to Governor Emmanuel’s heart, noting that many of these rural infrastructure were replicated in other parts of the state.

At the Ibesit Nung Ikot clan, the road which is handled by JMK has been completed and had since been put to use.

Ndueso said the road which aligns with the Ikot Ikara, Ikot Abasi axis of the East West road has opened up the rural community to economic activities noting that the road was a testament that the Governor has been utilizing funds accruable to the state judiciously in the provision of basic amenities.

“When people ask about Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Legacy, this stretch of 18.9km road is just one of them”. He said.

Our correspondent reports that the total projects inspected by the team in Oruk-Anam include, 5.1km internal roads around the Obio Akpa Campus of Akwa Ibom State University, the remodeled General Hospital, Ikot Okoro , the Completed 4.9km Ibesit Okpokoro-Ikot Ibritam Road, the completed 14km Ikot Ikara – Ibesit Okpokoro Road with one bridge, the ongoing 22km Ikot Ekaide – Ikot Okoro – Ikot Ibritam Road, ongoing 18.9km Ikot Ibritam – Ekeffe- Ikot Akpan Afaha Road
