Fubara To Youths – Expect More Empowerment Programmes

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has affirmed his administration’s resolve to partner with youths in society development.

He also reaffirmed the state National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) chapter led by Acting Chairman, Comrade Gift Jumbo as the apex youth body in Rivers, assuring them of more youth empowerment programmes in the State.

The governor, represented by
Hon. Chisom Gbali, gave the affirmation when the Jumbo led Rivers body of the NYCN visited Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Welcoming the NYCN delegation led by the State Secretary, David Apiafi, Gov. Fubura thanked them for, “Coming to show solidarity and supporting his administration.

“Let me announce that the National Youth Council of Nigeria leadership led by Comrade Gift Jumbo and David Apiafi is the certified and recognized apex youth body in Rivers State.

He noted that the State currently is anchored on the issue of moral conflict therefore requires them to identify with his government. Referring to the detractors he said, “That is why the ground is drifting beneath their feet. They are perplexed with the achievements of the governor.”

On the administration’s increasing interests in youth development, he said, “We have more lofty plans for Rivers youth. We have achieved for the first time, a Rivers youth policy. In that policy, all our plans, like the ones we outlined in this fiscal budget are embedded.

“You know our budget has been passed and ongoing. I can tell you that in the coming weeks and months what you will see is empowerment, training on ICT, training on entrepreneurship, agriculture, etc.

He urged the leadership of the body to integrate all other bodies at all levels including community based youth organizations as they must work as a united body.

The governor applauded the composure of the body in managing their affairs as they have shown maturity by refusing to fall to the antics of detractors of the State as they tried to break their ranks.

“We must support our governor, a man that you can access and will talk to you and any idea that is workable you bring to him, he integrates it into governance. That is the kind of governor we want and the governor we have.”

Speaking on behalf of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers chapter, the Secretary of the body, Comrade David Apiafi, said they were on a solidarity match to affirm their unwavering support for a leader who has redefined governance in Rivers State and one who stands tall as the most youth friendly governor in the history of Rivers State.

“Through his visionary policies he has empowered young entrepreneurs, created employment opportunities and ensured voices of the youths are heard at the highest level of governance. He has prioritised education, skills acquisition and leadership development, providing an environment for the youths to thrive.”

Apiafi affirmed, “Let it be known today that the true youths of Rivers stand are firmly behind our governor and will not allow the overzealousness of a few to determine the collective progress of the people.

He noted that the body rejected attempts to destabilize the State, and also rejected the antics of those who having lost relevance now resorted to desperate measures to hold on to power.
