Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed strong confidence in the ability of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and the Nigerian Navy to enhance security across the state’s waterways.
The governor gave the assurance on Thursday when the Naval Chief paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Fubara congratulated Vice Admiral Abbas on his recent appointment, describing it as well-deserved and a recognition of his proven record of excellence and service. He noted that the Navy’s advanced technology, skilled manpower, and tactical competence are essential to safeguarding Rivers State’s extensive marine corridor.

“We need to work together for us to succeed,” the governor said, emphasising that collaboration remains the most effective strategy for protecting residents, assets, and the environment.
Highlighting Rivers State’s strategic importance as a hub for Nigeria’s crude oil and coastal infrastructure, Governor Fubara commended the Navy for its sustained efforts in preventing losses to lives, livelihoods, and the ecosystem. He assured Vice Admiral Abbas of the state government’s continued cooperation and support.

In his remarks, the Chief of Naval Staff said his visit was part of a nationwide tour to assess operational readiness across naval formations since assuming office on October 30, 2025. He noted that Rivers State hosts several critical energy installations that fall under the Navy’s protection mandate, as well as key units vital to its training operations.
Vice Admiral Abbas commended the state government for its consistent support, citing the provision of six gunboats and the donation of a school building as notable interventions that have enhanced operational effectiveness. He called for sustained collaboration as the Navy intensifies efforts to secure the nation’s maritime domain.
