In what many interpret as a significant gesture of reconciliation and renewed political goodwill, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Saturday, June 28, 2025, joined the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, at the funeral service of his cousin, Elder Temple Omezurike Onuoha.
The solemn event took place in Rumueprikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, drawing the presence of several political heavyweights and notable figures from across the state.
Among the dignitaries present were the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule; Senators Allwell Onyesoh, George Thompson Sekibo, Olaka Nwogu, and Mao Ohuabunwa; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche; Dr. Sam Sam Jaja; and Bro. Felix Obuah.
Following the funeral service, a reception was held at the residence of Chief Wike, located along Ada-George Road in Rumueprikom.
The appearance of Governor Fubara alongside Chief Wike, despite their previously reported political tensions, has sparked fresh speculation of a possible rapprochement between the two camps within the Rivers political landscape.
Observers view the governor’s presence at the family event as a symbolic step towards mending fences and fostering unity within the state’s political leadership.
