With the festive season approaching, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Rivers State has intensified efforts to curb road accidents, urging both drivers and passengers to prioritize safety. The FRSC called on drivers to avoid reckless driving and advised passengers to speak up if they observe dangerous driving behavior.
The Assistant Corps Marshal, Henry Benamaisia, represented by Corps Commander Dawosi Kinde, gave this advice during the flag-off of the annual ember months road safety campaign in Port Harcourt. Benamaisia highlighted that passengers often suffer higher fatalities than drivers in crashes, stressing the responsibility of passengers to remain vigilant and intervene when drivers act irresponsibly. “Passengers must ensure they reach their destination safely by holding drivers accountable,” he emphasized.
To tackle the surge in road accidents during the festive season, the FRSC has introduced new safety measures and strategies designed to ensure compliance with road safety standards. These measures, according to Benamaisia, aim to engage passengers in the campaign, empowering them to speak out against dangerous driving practices.
FRSC Sector Commander in Rivers State, Inyang Edet, reiterated the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stating that the FRSC will conduct widespread public enlightenment campaigns to reduce accidents during the holiday season. He advised both drivers and passengers to stay safety-conscious, encouraging drivers to observe speed limits and maintain safe driving practices. “As we leave our various homes, we must all ensure we reach our destinations safely,” Edet concluded.
