In preparation for the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS9.3 Abia State Sector Command has rolled out a comprehensive Special Patrol Operation. The initiative, set to run from Wednesday, June 5th, to Tuesday, June 12th, 2025, will cover major highways and critical corridors across Abia State.
Sector Commander Corps Commander (CC) Ngozi I. Ezeoma revealed that the operation is designed to ensure smooth traffic flow, timely rescue services, and quick clearance of road obstructions before, during, and after the festive period. Additionally, the effort seeks to reduce road traffic crashes through strategic patrols and ongoing public enlightenment campaigns.
To achieve these objectives, the command has mobilized 800 personnel, including 500 Regular Marshals and 300 Special Marshals. The operation will also feature a fleet of operational vehicles, such as ambulances and tow trucks, to enhance efficiency.
CC Ezeoma outlined the key focus areas of the operation to,
Effective traffic control and management,
Prevention of wrongful overtaking,
Combating phone use while driving.
The rests are, the enforcement of driver’s license regulations,
Promoting lane discipline,
Removal of rickety or unfit vehicles and
Monitoring tyre conditions, including expiry and the availability of spare tyres.
“Our commitment is to protect lives and ensure safe travel for all road users during this festive season. We urge motorists to obey traffic rules and cooperate with our officers on duty,” CC Ezeoma said.
The Sector Commander encouraged the public to utilize the National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM for real-time traffic updates and report emergencies, obstructions, or crashes via the FRSC toll-free number 122 for swift intervention.
