Four Clubs get Promotion to NPFL

Four clubs have gained promotion to campaign in the 2019/2020 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

In a play-off that took place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, Akwa Starlets gained promotion after defeating Shooting Stars 3-0.

Akwa Ibom State will have two clubs in the top league as Akwa United are already playing in the top flight division.

In the second play-offs that took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Warri Wolves needed a penalty to defeat Dynamite FC after the match was tied goalless after full time.

The Warri side will return to the NPFL since 2016 after they won 5-3.

After seven years in the wilderness of Nigeria Nationwide League, Jigawa Golden Stars are back to the top flight after defeating NAF FC 3-2.

Adamawa United completed the quartet of promoted clubs after they secured a 2-1 victory over FRSC.

The 20 teams that will battle next season in the NPFL are Enyimba International, Kano Pillars, Rangers International, Akwa United, Lobi Stars, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Rivers United, Katsina United, Nasarawa United, Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, Heartland FC, Delta Force, Plateau United, Wikki Tourist, MFM, Akwa Starlets, Adamawa United, Jigawa Golden Stars and Warri Wolves.
