Foster Positive Perception Of Abia State, Commissioner Tasks Journalists

Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, has called on Journalists across the state to collaborate with the present administration of Dr Alex Otti in its efforts to revitalize the State for the collective benefit of all.

Prince Nwachukwu who made the call in his office when he received members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia State Council led by the Chairman, Victor Ndukwe, tasked Journalists to foster positive perception of the state through their reportage.

The Commissioner while noting the importance of journalists as agents of societal change,
emphasized that Journalists have a vital role to play in advancing the goals of the new Abia State and urged them to perform their duties impartially.

He noted that the key challenge faced in the state is the negative image and reputation that Abia has endured over the years and called on Journalists to drive attitudinal change and reorientation by crafting social systems, innovative approaches that would break conventional norms, and strategically shape public perceptions through their communication efforts.

This he said can trigger a positive shift that would ultimately lead to a more prosperous Abia that fosters collective pride.

We highly value the role of the NUJ in our pursuit of a new Abia. To realize our ambitions in Abia, we recognize the significance of channeling our efforts through a process of reorientation, in alignment with the new Abia mantra brought forth by the present administration of Dr Alex Otti.

“Our objective is to rectify long-standing issues within our state and alter the prevailing narrative and in order to effectively steer the course of transformation, the dissemination of information holds immense importance. It is imperative that we keep the public informed about our endeavors and direction.

“Achieving the change we aspire necessitates a strong partnership with the media. Your involvement is crucial across all sectors of our initiatives and we are enthusiastic about collaborating with journalists to reshape the trajectory of Abia”, Prince Nwachukwu said.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman NUJ, Abia State Council Comrade Victor Ndukwe explained that the purpose for visiting the Commissioner was to offer congratulations on his appointment and to discuss ways of collaboration with the Union to implement the present administration’s policies and programs.

Ndukwe highlighted the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs responsibility in overseeing the 17 Local Government Areas of the State and the activities of Traditional Rulers, underlining the necessity for effective communication to inform the public about the government’s initiatives.

He, therefore, thanked the Commissioner for his time and prayed to God to give him the wisdom to carry out his assignments successfully.

National Officer of the Council, Ezeogo Boniface Okoro, in a vote of thanks, assured the Commissioner of the willingness of Journalists in the state to work with the present administration of Governor Alex Otti to move Abia to greater heights.
