Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that former President Olusegun Obasanjo will officially commission the newly completed 46-kilometer Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Alayi–Abiriba Road on April 2.
Governor Otti who made the announcement during the 80th birthday celebration of former Senator Chris Adighije in Umuahia, highlighted his administration’s commitment to improve infrastructure across the State.
The road, which connects Umuahia North, Bende, and Ohafia Local Government Areas, is expected to facilitate trade, improve transportation for farmers and businesses, and open up economic opportunities for rural communities.
The Governor also revealed that following the completion of the reconstruction work of the 46 kilometre Umuahia – Uzuakoli – Akara – Alayi – Abiriba road, he has given the contractors mandate to begin the installation of street lights on the road starting from next Monday to enhance security and ease of travel at night.
He noted that the the completion of the road would mark a milestone in his administration’s efforts to enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and improve the living conditions of residents.
Governor Otti further disclosed that on Tuesday, his administration would flag off the reconstruction of the 9-kilometer Orpert–Umuafai–Lodu–Ahiaeke Road, including the Ahiaeke–Okwuta–Bende Road in Umuahia North LGA.
He reaffirmed that his administration is focused on rebuilding critical infrastructure across the State, with several other road projects already flagged off for reconstruction.
