Food security: NYCN chief charges youths to embrace agriculture

Youths have been urged to Jettison their uncontrollable quest for white colar jobs and embrace agriculture as a means of achieving food security in Nigeria.
The Abia State chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Engr. Smith O. Sylvanus, who stated this during 2021 International Youth Day Commemoration in Umuahia, Abia State,recently, described agriculture as a gateway to sustainable economic development.
Speaking on this year’s theme: “Transforming food systems: youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, Comrade Sylvanus charged Abia Youths to take advantage of the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu developmental strides in Abia agricultural sector and make a living for themselves.
He thanked the Abia governor for creating an enabling environment for agriculture thrive in the state, adding that many Abia youths have been empowered with several skills, through the office of the state focal person, Hon. Chinenye Nwaogu and Ministry of Agriculture, among others.
The Abia youth boss further maintained that youths are the mechanical tools for viable economic development, insisting that youth empowerment reduces insecurity in the society.
Contributing, Abia State focal person, on social investment, Hon Chinenye Nwaogu, advised youths on the need to acquire workable skills, urging them to shun procrastination and leverage on the empowerment platform made available by the state and federal government.
Nwaogu further revealed that the successful Batch C, N Power programme candidates would soon commence work, adding that GEEP 2.0 empowerment programme would soon be launched in the state to provide financial support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Abia.
He charged youths to desist from any act that is capable of bringing shame to their family and the society at large.
