Final Journey of Faith: Late Rev. Dr. Umah Ukpai Laid to Rest in Asaga Ohafia

It was a solemn yet uplifting gathering as dignitaries, clergy, family members, and admirers from across the country converged to pay their last respects to the late Rev. Dr. Umah Ukpai, whose life has been widely described as one of service, humility, and unwavering devotion to God.

The remains of the revered cleric were laid to rest in his hometown of Asaga Ohafia, in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, amid heartfelt tributes and reflections on his impactful life.

Speaking at the funeral service held at Coronata Secondary School, Asaga, the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, described the deceased as a man who walked closely with God and dispensed divine grace with humility and compassion.

Represented by his Deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, the governor noted that the late cleric played a significant role in building and strengthening the Church. He emphasized that the faith, works, and steadfast witness of Rev. Ukpai would remain a lasting inspiration to both present and future generations.

He also prayed for God to grant the bereaved family the strength to bear the loss and fill the void created by his passing.

Delivering the sermon, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Abel U. Amadi, reminded Christians of the transient nature of life, likening it to the fleeting beauty of a flower in the field.

He urged believers to hold firmly to the Word of God and embrace Jesus Christ as the ultimate source of true greatness.

In an emotional tribute, the widow of the deceased, Pastor Mrs. Philomena Uma Ukpai, expressed gratitude to God for the life her husband lived, describing him as a “General” who honored his people, his country, and his God.

She also appreciated the overwhelming show of love and support extended to the family during the period of mourning.

Late Rev. Dr. Umah Ukpai, who passed away at the age of 80, is survived by his wife, children, and numerous relatives. His legacy of faith, service, and dedication to humanity remains indelible in the hearts of many.
