FIFA Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons Bow Out Gallantly

England eliminated Nigeria from the World Cup on penalties after full and extra time had ended goalless in Brisbane.

England finished the match with 10 women after Lauren James was red-carded in the 87th minute.

Nigeria outplayed England, hitting the woodwork twice and dominating the match. But football can be cruel as Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie missed their penalties.

Georgia Stanway missed England’s first penalty but, Beth England, Rachel Daly, Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly converted their penalties to give the Three Lionesses the quarter-final ticket.

They will face the winner between Colombia and Jamaica on Saturday.

The Super Falcons will have to build on their wonderful experience at this World Cup and storm the world at the next World Cup.
