FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Hosts Take On Defending Champions

Two pre-tournament favorites, hosts, France and defending champions, United States of America will slug it out in the second quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

To qualify for the quarter-final, France defeated Brazil 2-1 while the USA defeated Spain 1-2.

Both teams have met only once at the World Cup. In 2011, USA defeated the Les Bleues 3-1 in one of the semi-finals.

The USA have qualified for the semi-finals for all seven of their previous participations, while France have qualified for the semi-finals one time before in 2011.

This is the first time the USA will play the host team of a Women’s World Cup.
