FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Brazil, England Start Campaign with Wins

The ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup continued today with three matches. Australia took on Italy; Brazil confronted Jamaica while the ‘British War’ saw England take on Scotland.

Italy came from behind to defeat Australia 2-1. Australia drew the first blood when Sam Kerr found the net on the 22nd minute.

But, Barbara Bonansea equalized for the Europeans on the 56th minute and scored the winner just before the blast of the final whistle.

In the second match of the day, Brazil took Jamaica to the cleaners, defeating them 3-0.

Cristiane of Brazil stole the show with a hat-trick. She scored one goal in the first half, and a brace in the second half.

Nikita Parris and Ellen White scored in the first half to give England a two goal lead into the break, however, Scotland returned in the second half to get a consolatory goal on the 79th minute through Claire Emslie.

Action will continue tomorrow. Argentina will tread tackles with Japan while Canada will take on Africa’s third representative, Cameroon.
