FIFA Women’s World Cup: Australia, England Reach Semi-Finals

Co-host, Australia reached the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup for the first time after they defeated France on penalties in Brisbane.

After a goalless full and extra-time, the match went into penalties and the Matildas’ goalkeeper made four saves to give her side a 7-6 victory.

Australia will play England on Wednesday in Sydney.

The Three Lionesses qualified after a 2-1 victory over Colombia. Leicy Santos put the South Americans ahead in the 44th minute only for Lauren Hemp to equalize seven minutes later.

Alessia Russo scored the winner mid-way into the second half to hand England a semi-final ticket.
It was heartbreak for France and Colombia, who will have to wait for another World Cup in four years.
