FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Australia Beat Ireland

The first match of Group B, the Super Falcons group took place today with co-host Australia popping debutants Ireland by a lone goal.

After a goalless first half, Steph Catley converted from the spot after Marissa Sheva pushed Hayley Raso and Brazilian referee Edina Alves pointed to the spot.

Ireland frustrated the Matildas and can hold their heads high despite the defeat.

Despite having only 29% of possession, the Irish ladies were very dangerous on the counter attack and gave the home fans a lot of anxious moments.
