FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP: Contrasting Fortunes For African Teams

The two African teams in action today in the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup had contrasting fortunes. South Africa lost to Korea Republic while Mali defeated Saudi Arabia.

The chances of the Amajita of South Africa to qualify for the next round is very slim after they lost their second match to Korea Republic.

Kim Hyunwoo scored the only goal of the encounter in the second half.

It will be recalled that South Africa lost their first match to Argentina 5-2. Their next match against Portugal, which is a do or die, will come up on Friday.

Another Africa’s representative, Mali came from two goals down to defeat Saudi Arabia 4-3.  Having drawn with Panama 1-1 in the opening game, a draw in their last match against France will likely see them through into the next round.

Other results emanating from Poland show that Panama lost 0-2 to France while Argentina defeated Portugal 0-2.
