FIDA Decries Increased Sexual Abuse Among Pupils, Students

The International Federation of Women lawyers (FIDA) in Rivers State, says there is an increase in the number of pupil and students of primary and secondary school being defiled by teachers, proprietress and minders. Chairperson of FIDA, Adata Bio Briggs speaks about this in an interview with our reporter.

FIDA boss further explained that the Rivers State branch of FEDA, frowns at the rate in which pupils and students of primary and secondary schools are being sexually abused, defiled and raped by people who are supposed to be their caregivers. She said these so called caregivers are the ones who unfortunately have become monsters, defiling and raping children in their custody.

She however said that the organization will not sit down and watch this evil continue, revealing that they will ensure that proper investigations are done and whoever that is found wanting is going to face the law.

In another development, Nigeria Association of Women journalist (NAWOJ) in Rivers State has also expressed sadness with the decision of the National Assembly to reject the bill that seek to reserve special sit for women. A chairperson of NAWOJ in Rivers State Sussan Serekara who spoke to our reporter said the rejection will not deter them from mobilizing for women in politics.

NAWOJ chairperson said they have decided to carry out sensitization on women, especially those that are ready, capable and that can contest. She also said that they are going to encourage them to pick up formd, to ensure that they go in to contest for any position of their choice. Adding that they are going to do more sensitisation to convince the women to have their PVC’S because it is the power that will give them the change that they deserve.
