The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, has extended an invitation to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for a meeting scheduled for today Monday, September 18 to address the looming indefinite strike planned by the congress. The announcement was made by Olajide Oshundun, the Director of Press and Public Relations for the ministry, in a statement released on Sunday, September 17, in Abuja.
Minister Lalong has instructed the Department of Trade Unions Services and Industrial Relations to organize a meeting with the NLC leadership. He emphasized the importance of a collaborative discussion between the union and the government to resolve all outstanding issues and prevent further disruptions to the economy.
Lalong reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to engage with organized labour and address their concerns through consultations and negotiations, aiming to maintain industrial harmony, a crucial element in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.
It is worth noting that Minister Lalong had previously invited both labour centers for talks in an attempt to avert the two-day strike that took place between September 5th and 6th, organized by the NLC. However, only the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria participated in the meeting, while the NLC proceeded with the two-day warning strike.
