The Chairman, House Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), Rep. Chris Nkwonta has been honoured with the Distinguished Service Award in Legislative Service by the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
Rep. Nkwonta, who represents Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives was conferred with the prestigious award during the Institute’s South East Zonal programme held yesterday (Friday, August 8, 2025), in Umuahia, Abia state.
Presenting the award, the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute, Rtd. Navy Commodore Abimbola O. Ayuba, FNIM, lauded Rep. Nkwonta for his “track record of excellent service in the legislative chamber” and his unwavering commitment to governance and development in the South East and Nigeria at large.
“The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), having followed your record of excellence and impact in legislative service, is pleased to confer on you, Rt. Hon. Chris Nkwonta, the Distinguished Service Award of Excellence in Service,” Ayuba stated.
He congratulated the Ndoki-born politician, urging him not to be deterred in his services to God and humanity.
Responding, Hon. Nkwonta thanked NIM for the honour, adding he was overwhelmed with the award.
Represented by a member of the Governing Council, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Dr. Chidi Nwankpa, Rep. Nkwonta dedicated the award to the good people of Ukwa Federal Constituency, describing them as his “inspiration and driving force.”
The ceremony attracted notable dignitaries from the Institute and the public sphere, including the National Treasurer of the Institute, Dcns Ijeoma Clara Okere, FNIM (also a retired Abia State Permanent Secretary); Registrar/CEO, Mrs. Taiwo Ganiyat Olusesi, MNIM; Rt. Hon. Sam Onugbo; Dame Ngozi Nwagbara, PhD, who represented Distinguished Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe; keynote speaker, Mr. Johnson Chukwu; Prof. Vincent A. Onodugo; and His Royal Highness, Eze Prof. Ezeudo Sam Ifenwanta, PhD, FNIM, among others.
The event also featured thought-provoking discussions on leadership, ethics, and institutional growth, underscoring the Institute’s mission to promote professionalism and effective management practices across Nigeria.
