Fed Lawmaker, Nkwonta Meets Ukwa-East Stakeholders On Electricity Restoration

The member representing Ukwa Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, National Assembly, Abuja, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, has met with Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA) Council of traditional Rulers, the member representing Ukwa-East State Constituency, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, among others to brainstorm on ways of sustaining electricity in the area.

In his remarks, Hon. Nkwonta thanked his constituents for their commitments to the course of Ndoki land, adding that the meeting was a follow up to his recent visit to Aba Power Limited (APL).

He further disclosed that electricity would soon be restored in Ukwa owing to his fruitful deliberations with the Management of APL recently.

The chairman, House Committee of on Climate change, also promised to hold a similar meeting with Ukwa-West LGA as soon as possible to address the perennial Electricity challenge in the area.

Chief Nkwonta revealed that subsequent meetings will be held periodically with both Local Government Areas for developmental purposes.

According to the aide to the legislator, Dr. Chidi Nwankpa, the meeting Resolved as follows:

1) Electricity Bills will be generated on Transformer Metering Basis and consumers connected to each transformer will be responsible for paying the bills accruing to the transformers.

2) Traditional Rulers of various Communities are to constitute community electricity management committee comprising people with relevant experience for consumer enlightenment and also to coordinate the Electricity bills/payments for every transformer installed in the Communities.

3) Meeting will reconvene in two weeks (21/August/2023) to assess the progress on action plan implementation and outcomes.
