Rivers State residents have been urged to project the state in good light. An elder statesman Chijioke Wobo, who stated this recently in Port-Harcourt, applauded the governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara for his commitments to the people of Rivers State.
He explained that favourable marketing of the State to the rest of the world rather than portraying it in a negative light would attract more investors to the state with its attendant development, stressing that it is for the development of the state and the general interest of the people.
Elder Wobo in an interview with our reporters said there is nothing that destroys a state like negatively portraying a state. He said positive discussion and communication about a state is the economic engine for change and its gateway to new resources and opportunities.
He further said that considering what is happening in our society today, Rivers State is very peaceful.
He therefore urged the people to channel the strength they use in condemning the state to marketing it, to bring about development that everyone will enjoy, stating that they should love and be proud of their state.
You would recall that Governor Fubara at the thanksgiving service to end the Second Session of the Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Evo at the St. Philip’s Anglican Church in Oroigwe District on Sunday, urged Rivers residents to join in favourably marketing the State to the rest of the world rather than portraying it in a negative light. He particularly charged the church to begin to use some of their sessions to tell the rest of the country how peaceful and conducive the state is to live and do business. He stated that the campaign to portray the State positively should not be left for the government alone to do but embraced by everybody to overwhelm those talking down the State because of their failed political interest.
Elder Wobo also explained that the solution to reducing crime those not only lie in government programs or building bigger jails. He said he supports the statement of the governor that while the tenets of Christianity will be upheld by his administration, the church should not overlook the need to intensify the teaching of the youths to safeguard them against the effect of the negative use of technology. Elder Wobo further said that the church has a major role in the youths’ lives. He said they should teach them the right path than allowing them to follow the wrong way, and constantly remind them of the punishment attached to doing evil.
He, however, urged the church to always teach them to have faith and believe in God because those youths who do, generally strive to be law-abiding and are always rewarded by man and God.
