False Information Will Attract Prosecution, Abia Govt Warns

 

….Vows To Enforce Cyber Security & Data Protection Laws

 

Abia State Government has announced its determination to prosecute individuals or groups found guilty of violating the Cyber Security Act and Data Protection Act.

 

 

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known while briefing Newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Exco Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

 

 

Prince Kanu emphasized that the Government would not tolerate the dissemination of false information, especially under the guise of political opposition, aimed at misleading the public.

 

 

While reaffirming the present administration’s commitment to transparency, the Commissioner who urged citizens to verify information before sharing it, warned that deliberate acts of misinformation would be met with the full force of the law.

 

 

This is to inform those who peddle falsehood all in the name of opposition that time has come for them to desist from such unwholesome acts or be ready to face the full wrath of the law”, Prince Kanu warned.

He reminded the public that the Cyber Security Act and Data Protection Act are integral parts of Nigeria’s legal framework, and added that spreading false information not only infringes on the rights of others but also has the potential to cause public disorder.

 

 

Such people need to be reminded of the Cyber Laws in our legal system Cyber Security Act, the Data Protection Acts all part of our legal system.

 

 

“While this Government has nothing to hide, we believe that the purveyors of falsehood are infringing on the rights of others.

 

 

“The people that engage in acts of misinformation should understand that it has the capacity to cause mischief and chaos among the public.

“It is important for such should people to note that this State’ Government reserves the right to prosecute them if they run foul of the law”, Prince Kanu stated.
