Ex Abia Lawmaker Calls For More Support Towards Peace In South East Project

The Immediate past Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly,Hon Chijioke Chukwu, has called for more support towards the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P), an initiative powered by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Ben Kalu.

Hon Chijioke Chukwu who is currently the Special Assistant to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on Intergovernmental Affairs, during an interview recently, lauded the PISE-P initiative which according to him,is centered around the use of a non kinetic approach that involves negotiations, dialogues, development of infrastructure and training of the unemployed youths to foster the course of peace in the South East region.

He said the course of peace is very important in the Southeast region, being the hub of enterprise in Nigeria, but lamented how the economic potentials of the region are gradually eroding, with the rising unemployment in the area, inflation and security threats.

Hon Chukwu disclosed that the PISE-P recognizes the urgency to address these challenges, restore peace and unlock the region’s untapped potential, calling on Ndigbo to rally round the Deputy Speaker, to move the project forward.

“The Southeast has become the shadow of itself in-terms of economic activities and security challenges. Our people can no longer come home. The weekly sit at home has greatly crippled commercial activities in the region. Our people who were once known for being, hardworking, entrepreneurs and also their brother’s keeper, are now living like enemies.

“The current situation in the Southeast calls for moral restitution, reconciliation  and rebirth. This is what PISE-P seeks to address and we must give it the needed support to restore the region to its old glory”,he said.
