West Ham United stood united to defeat Chelsea 3-1 in an interesting London Derby.
Despite playing more than 30 minutes with only ten men, as Nayef Aguerd was sent off after he received a second yellow card, West Ham stood firm to clinch a victory they will relish for the rest of the season.
Nayef Aguerd opened scoring for the home side in the seventh minute, but Chelsea equalized through Carney Chukwuemeka in the 28th minute.
Just before half time Enzo Fernandez missed the chance to put the Blues in front as his penalty kick was saved by Alphonse Areola.
Michail Antonio put the home side in front in the second half before they were reduced to ten men. Chelsea failed to take advantage of their superiority in numbers, not even the introduction of Moises Caicedo, who cost them over £100m could help the visitors restore parity.
Rather, the Ecuadorian mid-fielder conceded a penalty that Lucas Paqueta converted to give West Ham a comprehensive 3-1 victory.
Earlier, Aston Villa vanquished Alex Iwobi’s Everton 4-0, with the Nigerian playing for 51 minutes before he was replaced by Maupay.
