EPL OPENER: Liverpool Survive Bournemouth Scare

Liverpool commence their English Premier League title defense with a 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday.

Arne Slot fielded four of his new signings and they did not disappoint with Hugo Ekitike opening scoring eight minutes before the break.

Four minutes after the break, Ekitike turned provider as Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool lead. It seemed a perfect outing until Bournemouth bounced back with Semenyo scoring a brace to restore parity.

But the defending champions reclaimed their lead through Federico Chiesa’s first Premier League goal for Liverpool and the Egyptian Messi, Mohamed Salah, put the icing on the cake two minutes from time

Tributes were paid before and during the game to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died in a car crash in July, with a minute’s silence observed before kick-off and applause in the 20th minute – the forward having worn Liverpool’s number 20 jersey.
