EPL: City Beat Newcastle

Defending champions, Manchester City opened their home league match with a hard-earned 1-0  victory over Newcastle United.

Julian Alvares’ first half goal was all the Pep Guardiola tutored side needed to maintain their 100 percent start to the season.

Newcastle were dogged, but posed little attacking threat to City, making only one shot on goal in the 70th minute when substitute Harvey Barnes called City’s goalkeeper to duty with a shot outside the box, throughout the match. It is surprising considering the fact that the same Newcastle side scored five goals against Aston Villa last weekend.

Phil Foden stepped into the large shoes of Kevin De Bruyne and produced a five-star performance that earned him the man-of-the-match award.

Their next matches will see Newcastle United host Liverpool while Manchester City will take on Sheffield United next Sunday.
