The Enugu State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has elected a staff of EEDC, Mr. Faustinus Chinedu Ilo, as the new chairman.
Mr. Ilo emerged as chairman during the chapter’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held recently, at the School of Communication Arts, IMT, Enugu.
At the meeting, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, of UNN, also emerged as the chapter’s vice chairman; while Dr. Onyedikachi Stanley Onovo, a District Public Relations Officer, Eastern District, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Enugu, was elected as the Secretary for a tenure of two years.
Other newly elected executive members included: Assistant Secretary, Mr. Samuel T. Otuonye, CEO Horopec Investment Nigeria Limited; Treasurer, Mrs. Ihuoma Phillips-Daniel, of SETRACO Nig Limited; Financial Secretary, Ms. Obianuju Onyemelukwe, an Assistant Director of News (ADN), Radio Nigeria, Enugu.
Others were: Mr. Onah Donatus Amaechi, of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Enugu, Welfare Officer; Mr. Nnamoko Chukwuka, from Nkanu West LGA, PRE; while Mr. Anele Desmond of the National Lottery Trust Fund, was elected the Assistant Welfare Officer.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Hon. Ilo, thanked all those who voted for him and promised not to disappoint them.
He pledged to take NIPR Enugu State Chapter to the next level of progress.
He stressed the need for cooperation and synergy among members to deliver on the task ahead.
In a remark, the outgoing State Chairman of NIPR, Dr. Ifeanyi Ojobor, thanked members of the Institute for giving him the opportunity to serve, and promised to always be available to assist the new executive in whatever areas they may need his help.
Earlier, the AGM Committee Chairman, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, thanked participants, adding that the 2022 AGM has ushered in another opportunity for an enduring success in Enugu State Chapter of NIPR.
In a keynote address, Dr. Onyedikachi Onovo, harped on the need for Nigerians to elect credible individuals who have the capability to transform the country.
He urged leaders to be patriotic and place the interest of the masses above personal interest.
Dr. Onovo called on Public Relations Practitioners to be professional while communicating with their stakeholders, noting that wrong information could worsen already fragile security in the country.
The new executive was sworn-in by the NIPR National Council member, Mr. Sunny Osuji, who equally supervised the election.
