Empowering Education: Mrs. Otti Launches Distribution of Learning Materials in Abia

The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has officially flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials, as well as sports equipment, to basic education schools across the state.

The distribution ceremony, held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium under the auspices of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), is aimed at ensuring that pupils have access to quality education regardless of background or region in Nigeria.

Mrs. Otti stated that the collaboration between UBEC and ASUBEB in the provision of teaching and learning materials and sports equipment valued at about ₦50 million is a strategic step toward ensuring quality education for every child in Abia State.

She commended UBEC for its continued support to states in achieving the objectives of basic education in Nigeria.

Mrs. Otti maintained that the provision of these materials aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to revitalising basic education through the upgrade of existing schools and the construction of smart schools to ensure that every Abia child has access to quality education.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Mr. Olajuwon Razak-Akinyele, said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the delivery of basic education and supporting learners across the country.

She encouraged stakeholders to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu in the education sector to promote quality and value-based learning nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Lady Lydia Onuoha, noted that the materials represent more than books, kits, and equipment.

“They represent renewed hope for our pupils, enhanced capacity for our teachers, and strengthened confidence in our public school system. This aligns seamlessly with Governor Otti’s broader education transformation agenda, which emphasises infrastructure renewal, teacher development, accountability, technology integration, and performance-driven governance.

“We are determined to ensure that every intervention translates into measurable impact at the school level,” she said.
