Emetu restates Gov Otti’s vision of placing Abia in upward development

Abia state deputy governor Engr Ikechukwu Emetu has assured that the government of Dr. Alex Otti will continue to lay emphasis on things that would ensure a prosperous Abia.

Engr Emetu, who spoke while receiving members of the Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC), on a courtesy visit to his office at Government House, Umuahia, said that the government has been able to restore Public confidence and trust in government

He stated that Gov Otti has, through his novel achievements in Abia, proven to Nigerians that governance could actually work and that the people can actually take back their governance as the governor remains unparalleled in his performance index.

The deputy governor said that the governor has been redeeming the State from the spates of maladministration, it was plunged into, disclosing that the present administration has been able to reduce the State’s Debt portfolio from N193b it inherited from last administration to about N67b.


Engr Emetu said that Otti’s commitment remains upwards progress in Governance, stating that the State cannot go backwards citing the cases of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states where successive Governors added value to what they met on ground.

He thanked the Council for their wonderful speeches, assuring that the interest of the Youth would continue to receive adequate attention from the Government in terms of job creation as a means of tackling insecurity by engaging the Youths to be productive.

Engr Emetu admonished them to desist from acts that would tarnish their reputation and Igbo interest, insisting that everyone must join the New Abia that is enthrenching better Society where merit takes the pride of place instead of mediocrity.


Earlier, in his speech, the State OYC Chairman, Comrade Eugene Okonta appreciated the cordial working harmony, existing between the Governor and his Deputy, stating that Dr Otti’s qualities and Leadership styles, have birthed many Infrastructural Developments, Policies and Programmes within and around the State barely two Years in Office, and commended the Deputy for representing the Youths creditably.

He restated that their commitment as the bridge between the Government and the Youths population as it places responsibility of unifying the Igbo youths all over the world, upholding the social Cultural values of the Igbo nation , ensuring peace and harmony within citizens and residents, working hand in hand with the security agencies in ensuring safety of lives and properties, seeing to the eradication of unemployment amongst our youths.

He reminded the Government of the need for proper Development in Ala Igbo while they will be helping the government of the day in combating social vices, crimes and criminalities within the rural Communities and beyond.

Comrade Okonta said that they came to discuss pressing issues affecting our communities, intimate him of the programmes of Ohanaeze Youth Council Abia State, partnering the state government in sensitizing Ala Igbo, explore opportunities for collaboration in championing the course of Igbo youths and seek for guidance on matters impacting our development, as his leadership and vision are crucial in shaping the future of Abia State and called for their inclusion in government programmes and policies.

In his own speech,the National Publicity Secretary of the Council, Comrade Authority Michael Ukpabi, said that OYC as the Apex Igbo Youths Socio-cultural Organization’s goal is aimed at protecting the interest of all Igbo Youths Worldwide, while the new Executive will towards reactivating Local Government Chapters of OYC in Abia State.

Comrade Ukpabi said that the Abia Chapter was the first State among Member States to organize a Convention that produced the new Executives adding that they participates actively in the 17 Local Government Areas, eight Federal Constituency, 24 State Constituencies and 184 Political Wards.

He assured his Excellency that through their Structure, they have map all the Polling Units in Abia State and are poised to ensure that expired Politicians in Igbo Land who have not been representing well the peoples interest are not allowed to win any election come 2027
