Emetu presents government agenda to improve healthcare service delivery, awards contracts for revitalization of PHCs

Abia State Government says it is making very conscious effort in improving the health sector of the state.

Speaking during a one Day State Level Stakeholders Engagement Meeting on impact Contribution to the State Health Section 2025 deliverable by Abia State Impact Project Implementation Unit in Collaboration with Abia State Primary Health Development Agency held at Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre Umuahia, Abia State Deputy Governor Engr Ikechukwu Emetu represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff office of the Deputy Governor, Barr Chijioke Nwankwo, said that the state is interested in anything that has to do with health.

He said that the stakeholders engagement is very important to the State’s approach to what it needs to achieve in the health industry in Abia State.

He disclosed Governor Alex Otti’s vision to see that Abians are healthy to discharge and deliver in every assignment they have , adding, “that’s why I think this engagement is very important and that is why we needed to engage and discuss where we are coming from and where we are and where we are going to”.

He reminded those awarded the contract for revitalization of Primary Healthcare Centres in the State that since they have undergone so much rigorous process to emerge, they should perform optimally as the state expects quality jobs of international standard.

” You should carry out your assignment and deliver in accordance with the specifications of your contract. We will also have team on ground to monitor your activities and we will not expect anything that fall short of professional standard or ethic”, he said

 

While expressing optimism that they will comply, Emetu warned that anything that falls short of tense of the contract, that the government will have to take necessary action to that aspect.

He therefore charged them to make sure they deliver in line with the standard, in line with quality, in line with the agreement of contract they have enter into.

Speaking also, State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, who expressed happiness over the positive effects of the impact project, pointed out that immunization records have risen from 65 to 76 percent and a lot of Frontline healthcare workers have been receiving capacity building and their outputs after the trainings have remained impressive.

In his remark, the Executive Secretary,Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency , Dr Kalu Ulu Kalu said that the stakeholders meeting was designed to review the activities related to the impact project which is development project sponsored by the world bank to address the key drivers of health component especially as related to the primary health care.

He said that the Agency is very happy with the fact that Abia State is one of the state that is benefiting from the project which addresses maternal and child health care services in the rural areas and increase the update primary health care facility and activities helping to ensure uptake of immunization malaria prevention.

Responding, Chief Chester Awa Uche Director of Goodies Exclusively Nig LTD one of the contractors handling the Primary Healthcare Centres revitalization project disclosed that the contract has been awarded after the due process and his firm won.

He boasted that his firm has been tested and trusted and assuring the project will be delivered we are going to deliver on time as expected before eight (8) weeks.

“Like i said before we are tested and trusted that’s why we are called Goodie and we are going to deliver a quality work and on time too”, he assured.

Highpoint of the event was the goodwill messages from the representatives of WHO.
