The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has urged legislators to prioritize accountability and good governance. He made this call last Thursday, August 21, 2025, in Abuja.
Speaking at the Policy Dialogue and Public Unveiling of the 10th National Assembly’s Deliberative Barometer and Policy Focus Productivity Report, Olukoyede emphasized the importance of accountability in legislative governance.
The event was themed “Legislative Governance Accountability and Productivity Index” and organized by the Erudite Growth and Advancement Foundation (ERGAF-Africa) in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC).
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, who spoke through the Director of Public Affairs, Commander CE Wilson Uwujaren, urged organizers to prioritize governance and accountability issues concerning legislators.
He noted that the report and discussions presented were silent on accountability in governance, but commended the organizers for their efforts.
Earlier in his address, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Abbas Tajudeen, represented by Honorable Cyril Godwin Hart, emphasized the need to raise the standard of representation, lawmaking, and oversight.
He highlighted the importance of spotlighting legislative output to deepen democratic culture and make a stronger impact on legislative processes.
In his word,Professor Abubakar Suleiman, Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, praised the launch of the initiative, stating that it would provide valuable data to evaluate the activities of the 10th Assembly. He noted that accurate data and artificial intelligence would drive decisions, enhancing transparency and accountability in governance.
Also ,Hon.Bamidele Salam, in a goodwill message, appreciated the organizers and emphasized that leadership is about taking people to where they should be.
He stressed that citizens are more interested in the dividends of democracy and the fruits of the mandate given to legislators, calling for government support to sustain the initiative.
