The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Grace Ike, has extended Easter greetings to Christians across the FCT and Nigeria, urging citizens to embrace unity, sacrifice, and renewed hope.
In a statement to mark the Easter celebration, Ike described the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, symbolising victory over death and the triumph of light over darkness.
She noted that the Easter season presents an opportunity for reflection on the virtues of love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and service to humanity.
Ike also highlighted the significance of the Lenten season, characterised by fasting, prayer, and acts of charity, stressing that these values remain vital for fostering peaceful coexistence, moral integrity, and compassion in society.
Addressing journalists and other media professionals, the NUJ FCT Chairman urged members of the profession to uphold truth, fairness, and responsibility in the discharge of their duties, while contributing meaningfully to national development.
She further called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, to promote unity, tolerance, and mutual respect, noting that the country’s strength lies in its diversity and shared commitment to common values.
Ike encouraged citizens to extend kindness to the less privileged, emphasising that Easter is not only a celebration of faith but also a season of compassion and giving.
She also appealed to leaders at all levels to draw inspiration from the spirit of sacrifice exemplified by Christ by prioritising the welfare of the people, promoting justice, and ensuring inclusive governance.
While wishing Christians a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration, Ike advised Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and in an atmosphere of peace and goodwill.
She expressed hope that the resurrection of Christ would renew the nation’s spirit, strengthen unity, and usher in lasting peace and prosperity across the country.
