Due Process Bureau Inaugurates Committee To Monitor Procurement Activities In Abia State

 

The Compliance and Monitoring Team of the Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau has been officially inaugurated with Mr Ejieke Chinomso, as Chairman.

 

Other Members of the Five-Man Committee include; Mr. Okwara Chiukpai, Mr. Sunday Azubuike, and Mr. Francis Onwubuariri while Chief Sunday Agoha is to service as Secretary of the Committee.

Speaking during the inauguration at Government House Umuahia, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process and Public Procurement, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, emphasized the critical role of the committee in upholding the standards of government procurement processes.

 

He highlighted that the team’s formation followed the necessary approvals and directives from the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who has consistently stressed the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

Governor Otti’s administration has zero tolerance for sharp practices. Transparency and probity will remain our watchwords in all government procurement activities”, Dr. Chukwu stated.

He disclosed that the Compliance and Monitoring Team has been tasked with visiting all procurement units within the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state to collect data on their activities.

 

According to Dr Chukwu, the data would be used by the Bureau and other relevant bodies to ensure adherence to established procurement standards.

 

Dr. Chukwu who noted that all relevant government MDAs have been informed about the team’s impending visits, called on the heads of MDAs to fully cooperate with the team to ensure that the final report is comprehensive and reflective of the current state of procurement practices in the state.

He further encouraged the committee members to approach their task with diligence and passion, noting that their assignment is significance to the state.

 

 

Dr Chukwu directed the committee to submit weekly interim reports every Friday until the completion of their assignment, and assured the committee Members of full logistics support to help them deliver their mandate within the stipulated time.

 

 

Responding , the Chairman of the Compliance and Monitoring Committee, Mr. Ejieke Chinomso, and the Head, Procurement Department, Mr. Chiukpai Okwara, expressed their commitment to carrying out their duties with integrity and thanked Dr. Chukwu for the confidence reposed in them and promised to justify the trust by ensuring a credible outcome.

The Committee Members revealed that necessary tools for seamless and effective data collection have been generated and would be deposited in all MDAs they intend visiting for easy assessment and accurate data.
