The Nigerian national male basketball team has qualified for the Basketball event of next year’s Olympic Games that will take place in the Japanese city of Tokyo.
D’Tigers as the team is fondly called achieved this feat after they defeated China in the ongoing FIBA World Cup.
When the team lost their first two group games to Russia 82-77, and Argentina 81-94, it seemed all hopes were lost. But, the team displayed the never-say-die Nigerian spirit to defeat South Korea 66-108 to qualify for the classification match.
In the first classification match, they defeated their West African brothers, Ivory Coast 83-66, before they defeated the host, China 73-86 to seal a place in next year’s Olympics.
