Drivers Decry Renewed Banditory In Rivers

Bestman Orji, PH

Recently, bus drivers have become the target of bandits especially those plying from mile I to Ada-George Road, Iwofe, Rumokoro e.t.c.
Often times, the bandits would enter bus without money in their pockets only to run on getting down from the bus and some other times it would be to steal from the passengers.
Yesterday evening, around 8:20pm a bus victim narrated how a passenger came down and with the pretence of paying him snatched the money he was holding in his left hand and ran away.
According to him he screamed, shouted and abandoned his vehicle on the spot and pursued the criminal. Nobody volunteer to help him.
Again, and this morning at Rumuoji Model Market our reporter went to ascertain the prices of some food items and subsequently to interview some traders and consumers only to hear a lady screaming and running after a young man shouting “Thief ! Thief !! Thief !!!. He has stolen my phone.
Unfortunately no single person helped her and the young man ran sluggishly to his safety zone as he saw that no one was after him.
Our correspondent gathered there are palpable fear among residents of Port-Harcourt which has affected trading activities in the garden city.

The worse aspect is the levity the matter is being treated with among residents.

They should equally understand that tomorrow may be another person’s turn and who knows how it may turned to be.
One may rightly think that traders in Rumuoji Model Market and similar places should unite against criminals to protect their businesses, but all is wrong.
It would be better for them to see themselves as one than acting individually.
