The Governor of Abia State,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu,says government will continue to align with women in the state by responding positively to issues bordering on bettering the lots of the female gender.
Dr. Ikpeazu who stated this when the Executive members of Gender Studies Association of Nigerian,paid him a courtesy visit at government House, Umuahia,disclosed that in being gender sensitive ,government recently appointed women as Secretaries in the 17 LGAs in addition to appointing about 80% of women as Educational Secretaries,as well as permanent secretaries in the state.

The governor,represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu ,described the visit of the Association to the state as very timely as government also recognises the fact that there are great potentials among women in the state and commended them for raising the consciousness of the people to maximize the inherent potentials of the women folk.
He assured members of the Association of govternment’s support towards the successful hosting of their conference in the state and appreciated them for recognizing one of their own , Prof Agu Mkpa Agu, who has not only excelled in academics, but in governance and human relations.
In her remarks earlier, the President of Gender Studies Association of Nigeria ,Prof P.A. Nwamuo,said they are in the state for their International Conference where they will,among other activities,recognise a great Son of Abia , Prof, Agu Mkpa Agu,with a prestigious award and a 27 chapter book written in his honour.
Presenting her vote of thanks,the Auditor of the Association, Dr. Mrs Nene Iroakazi,described the proposed award on the eminent personality, Prof Agu Mkpa Agu,as an exalted one and pointed out that they are proud to be hosting their conference in the state and used the forum to invite the Governor to the opening ceremony holding tomorrow,May 3,2019.
