Some stakeholders in the South-South have bare their opinion over the alleged threats by the Niger Delta Avengers to attack oil installations in the regions.
You would recall that the group in a recent statement disclosed that they were planning to sabotage Nigeria’s economy by attacking oil installations in the region.
A former president of the Ijaw National Youth Congress, Charles Harry said the treat would have been avoided if the government had kept to its own bargain to develop the Niger Delta region.
In his comments; ‘the president of the National Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta Kennedy West asked the Federal Government not to ignore the threat’.
West, in an interview with our reporter called for dialogue between the Federal Government and the militant group.
He further stressed that Nigerian Government shouldn’t treat the statement from avengers with levity. He said the militants have done it before and they have the capacity to also do it again.
The president of the Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta further said that two wrongs don’t make a right. Adding that for the sake of the environment, safety of parents and siblings in the community.
West, however, appealed to the militants to try and approach this with dialogue.
He, however, also advocated for peace through dialogue on the part of the government.
A cross section of the Port Harcourt residents, condemned the planned attack. They expressed fears and worry that the attack would cripple economic activities in the region.
